How Much Does A Group Benefits Plan Cost In Canada?

In general, as a rule of thumb, a group benefits plan can cost as little as 2% of your payroll for a full-time employee. On a dollar cost basis, it may cost as much as $75/month for a single employee on a plan. Since employee benefits are received tax-free by employees, employees tend to be open to participating by making a contribution towards the cost of the plan as well. Unlike other industries, there is no additional cost to working with a group benefits expert as opposed to a general broker or advisor. The role of a employee benefits broker is to request quotes on your behalf and represent you with all insurance carriers, make comparisons them and help you decide which plan is suitable. Our fees are included in the premiums charged by the insurer you choose paid only when and if you choose to implement a plan. Want to know how much a plan might cost for your company?

Frequently Asked Questions

How Much Does A Benefit Plan Cost?

A plan may cost anywhere from 2% to 9% of your payroll based on budget, providing the most comprehensive coverage at the most cost effective structure available in the marketplace.

How Are Group Benefits Taxed?

In Canada, health and dental benefits can be paid out tax-free to employees. This requires that a special arrangement be set up between the employer and the employee. The employer cannot simply pay an employee, call it a health or dental benefit, and expect it to be a tax-free. In order for the benefit to be tax-free, there must be a formal arrangement between the employer and the employee.

What's The Implementation Timeline For A Plan?

Benefits implementation timeline depends on the choice of insurance carrier including the size of your group. In general, for groups less than 60 employees, we recommend you factor in 2 to 4 weeks from submission of all of the paperwork required by the insurance carrier. Groups between 59 and 150 require about 4 to 9 weeks.
